Tobacco sheets are also called reconstituted tobacco and homogeneous tobacco. It is mainly composed of tobacco dust, fragments, tobacco stems or low-order tobacco leaves added with adhesives and other additives. Commonly used adhesives are carboxymethyl cellulose and various cellulose derivatives, and extracts of pectin, gum and other natural raw materials can also be used.
Tobacco sheets can be used as raw materials for tobacco products to replace natural cigar inner wrappers (such as cigars), and are now widely used as raw materials for cigarettes. The product needs to be rolled into discs when used as cigar inner wrappers, and cut into slices when used as raw materials for cigarettes.
The use of low-grade tobacco raw materials to make sheets has the advantages of low cost, good filling properties and can reduce the tar content in the flue gas. The manufacture of tobacco sheets began in the 1950s. At present, in China, tobacco sheets are cut into shreds and filled in shredded tobacco.
