Atomic level zirconia project
This project adopts zirconium oxychloride as raw material, dissolved into an aqueous solution and extracted with TBP-HNO3-HCL system. Zirconium and hafnium are separated, sedimentation and calcined, and Hafnium free zirconia and hafnium dioxide are formulated separately.
Extraction
In the extraction process, TBP is used as the extractant, the chemical formula is (C4H2O)PO is used as the diluent of kerosene, and the organic phase is acidified with 6mol nitric acid, so that the acidity of the organic phase reaches saturation, and then extracted with the material liquid, Zr enters the organic phase, and Hf remains in the water phase, so as to achieve the purpose of separating Zr and Hf. The chemical reaction of the extraction process is:
ZrO2+ +2H+ +2NO3- +CI- +2TBP----Zr(NO3)2CI2 .2TBP
ZrO2+ + NO3-+ CI- + 2TBP ---- Zr(NO3)CI .2TBP
Calcination
The production of zirconium dioxide (hafnium dioxide) from zirconium tetrachloride requires dissolution, extraction separation and precipitation, and finally calcination.

HfCI4 + H2O ------HfOCI2 + 2HCI
ZrO2+ +2OH+HO2 ------- Zr(OH)4
Zr(OH)4 After calcination into semi-finished products ZrO2
Zr(OH)4------ ZrO2 + HO2 calcination temperature 900ºC
